The worst mass rape in Chinese history

Image
In December of 1937, the Japanese Imperial Army marched into China's capital city of Nanking and proceeded to murder 300,000 out of 600,000 civilians and soldiers in the city. The six weeks of carnage would become known as the Rape of Nanking and represented the single worst atrocity during the World War II era in either the European or Pacific theaters of war. After finally defeating the Chinese at Shanghai in November, 50,000 Japanese soldiers then marched on toward Nanking. Unlike the troops at Shanghai, Chinese soldiers at Nanking were poorly led and loosely organized. Although they greatly outnumbered the Japanese and had plenty of ammunition, they withered under the ferocity of the Japanese attack, then engaged in a chaotic retreat. After just four days of fighting, Japanese troops smashed into the city on December 13, 1937, with orders issued to "kill all captives." After the destruction of the POWs, the soldiers turned their attention to the women of Nanking

6 Surprising Presidential sex scandals in American history

Image
In the United States with its heritage of puritan principles and not so puritan practices, sex scandals have figured in presidential politics since the early Republic, striking at the most and least distinguished of American presidents. Thomas Jefferson He was born on April 13, 1743– July 4, 1826, was an American statesman, diplomat, lawyer, architect, philosopher, and Founding Father who served as the 3rd president of the United States from 1801 to 1809. He was the first president to have a sex scandal in 1802, when he denied having an affair with his slave, Sally Hemings, and having a family with her. Jefferson's wife had died while he was vice president and he held a large plantation estate in Virginia. But let’s be clear on the historical facts of this situation, she didn’t have any legal rights, nor was she allowed to deny Jefferson’s “unwanted sexual advances.” In 1998, a DNA test provided credible evidence that the former president fathered at least one of Hemings’ childre

7 reasons why Democrats will lose midterm elections 2022

Image
There have been 19 midterm elections since the end of World War II in 1945. In 17 of those elections, the president’s party has lost seats in the House. The average loss has been 27 House seats. Today, if the GOP gained that many seats, it would be more than enough for the party to become the House majority in January 2023. A president’s party has gained Senate seats in a midterm 14 times since 1862, including six times in the past 60 years: 1962, 1966, 1970, 1982, 2002 and 2018. 1- Republicans are aiming to take back control of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate from Democrats in November’s midterm elections, and betting market PredictIt gives a 74% chance for a House flip, but just 40% odds for the Senate changing hands. The outcomes for the midterms will determine the extent to which the GOP can shake up President Joe Biden’s agenda, such as by providing aggressive oversight of the Biden administration’s regulators or taking action on issues such as the child tax credi

5 reasons why you shouldn’t worry about Mpox virus and 2 antiviral drugs for treatment of it

Image
The name of "Mpox" is actually a little bit of a misnomer.   Perhaps it should be called "rodentpox" instead. The name "monkeypox" comes from the first documented cases of the illness, in 1958, when two outbreaks occurred in colonies of monkeys kept for research. But monkeys aren't major carriers. Instead, the virus likely persists in squirrels, pouched rats, dormice or another rodent. You can catch it from an animal bite, scratch or contact with the animal's bodily fluid. Then the virus can spread to other people through coughing and sneezing or contact with pus from the lesions. Monkeypox is a viral zoonosis (a virus transmitted to humans from animals) with symptoms very similar to those seen in the past in smallpox patients, although it is clinically less severe. 1- It doesn't spread very well between people. Its infection rate is much lower than that of smallpox. In many cases, people don't spread the virus to anyone else. 2-
