Alejandro
Nicholas Mayorkas was born on November 24, 1959, is an American lawyer and
politician serving since 2021 as the seventh United States Secretary of
Homeland Security. During the Obama administration, he also served in the
Department of Homeland Security (DHS), first as director of United States
Citizenship and Immigration Services (2009–2013), and as deputy secretary of
DHS (2013–2016).

originally from Havana, Cuba. When he was one year old, his parents fled with
him and his sister to the United States in 1960 as refugees, following the
